Developing Your Teams

Business Partnering

Everyone in business knows how important it is to take care of your customers. This is equally true when you are a service function and your customers are internal.

It's not about being a 'servant' of your internal client's agenda. As a function you need to influence and shape the business agenda by working in Partnership.

Getting past 1st base requires you and your team to establish your credibility and demonstrate your understanding of your customer's needs. You have to invest in earning your seat at the table.

Shaping things further, requires you to know who to influence and how to gain access to them, both in formal settings and by building informal relationships or networks.

Demonstrating the sometimes-elusive "added value" requires you to be clear about mutual expectations, pictures of success and evidence of achievement. You might also support the relationship with practical and useful Service Level Agreements and use Balanced Scorecards to monitor progress.

Arwel Douglas Ltd has lots of experience of working with support and service functions to help them become valued and respected Business Partners.

We also have experience of helping you to constructively manage the tension between business partners and their professional practice colleagues.
